Script: Situ Bagendit (Folktale from West Java,Indonesia)

Hai! Udah lama pengen ngeblog naskah ini.. 3 tahun berarti HAHAHA. For the first time gue ngeblog script drama dan dramanya tentang cerita rakyat (Situ Bagendit). Script ini sebenernya buat tugas pelajaran bahasa inggris gue waktu kelas 2 SMA tahun 2013. Awalnya nyari-nyari di gugel naskah drama yang ceritanya itu bisa dimainin 5 orang dan in english pastinya tapi gak ketemu ketemu. huh.  Yasudah. Akhirnya nyari, nyari, nyari cerita rakyat yang bisa dimainin 5 orang. KETEMU. Baca ceritanya berkali-kali, nyari referensi sana sini dan akhirnya nyoba bikin naskah dengan bahasa indonesia dulu (karena gak jago bahasa inggris sebenernya-_-). Udah selesai dibikin ternyata bagus juga hahahaha untuk pertama kalinya bikin naskah drama:))) Abis itu di translate deh sama teman saya namanya Revani. Waktu ada tugas ini kebetulan juga nih gue les bahasa inggris kan. Beruntungnya daper teacher yang baik, her name is Mega Pinanti. Miss Mega ngebantu bgt buat ngoreksi naskah yang udah kita buat dan akhirnya jadilah naskahnya bagus banget:) Kalau mau tau film yang udah kita buat bisa ditonton yah! Naskahnya ada dibawah. Situ Bagendit - Short Movie

SITU BAGENDIT

In ancient times in the northern city of Garut there is a village where the people are mostly farmers. The land in the village is very fertile and it never shorts of water, so the rice fields can produce abundant rice. But ironically, there are lots of poor people in the village.

It was still dark at that time, but everyone was already rushing to their fields, because that day was the time for them to harvest the yellowed rice and sell it to Nyai Endit.

Nyai Endit is the richest person in the village. she has a luxury house and a wide granary, where she kept all the rice she bought from all of the farmers in the village. the farmers sells their rice to nyai endit for a cheap price, and they didn't do it voluntarily. they were forced by her. And if they don’t sell it to her, they have to deal with her guards. She made the rules because when the people runs out of rice, they have buy it back from her with much higher price.

SCENE 1 - (rice field)

Farmer A       : “i don't want to sell this to that wicked woman”

Farmer B        : “we have no choice, we can't do anything. It’s better if we sell it, rather than deal with her guards”

Farmer A       : “Nyai endit is really a greedy woman”

Farmer B        : “helloo, look at us! we are just a poor farmer, so we better just accept the fate”

Farmer A       : “but I hate her, and I really want to burn her granary! She’s rich, but why did she keep all the rice for herself? What else is she looking for?”

Farmer B        : “sstt.. okay, calm down. I understand how you feel. But we’re going to be in a big trouble if someone hear what you just said”

Farmer A       : “but..”

Farmer B        : “we better go now and sell this rice, are you ready?”

Farmer A       : “yeah, I’m ready”

Farmer B        : “okay, let’s go!”

SCENE 2 – (Nyai endit’s rice granary)

Farmer B        : “excuse me, we want to sell this rice”

Guard              : “let me check it first. Hmm… ok! Put the rice there!”

Farmer A       : “hmm.. May I know how much are you going to pay me for the rice now?”

Guard              : “it’s still the same like before”

Farmer B        : “What? Still same?”

Guard              : “yes, it’s clear, isn’t it?!”

Farmer A       : “but if we want to buy it back, we have to pay higher than our selling price. It doesn't make any sense!”

Guard              : “are you dare to fight me? This is the money for your rice and get out of here!”

*the farmers walked away from the guards and went home*

SCENE 3 – (in the Nyai Endit’s bedroom)

*at the mean time, Nyai Endit was admiring at herself in the mirror*

Nyai Endit      : “ I am the richest person in the village! Hahaha.. all the people in this village are stupid! They all can be fooled. I will have lots and lots of rice as they have to sell the rice to me. And in the end they will have no rice at all. And when they don’t have any more supplies, they will have to buy it back from me and I will sell it with high price! Hahaha… hmm if I’m not mistaken, today is a harvest day. I think my granary is supposed to be full by now. I better go check it.”

*and then she went out to check her granary*

SCENE 4 – (Nyai endit’s rice granary)

Nyai Endit      : “Barja!!! How was it? Did you buy all the rice from the farmers in the village?”

Guard              : “Yes, I did, Nyai! You can check the granary, it’s already full with rice. We even have to put the rest of it outside.”

Nyai Endit      : “hahaha.. good job Barja! soon they will running out of supplies, and they will have to buy the rice from me. And I’m going to be very rich! Hahaha..  and keep an eye on the farmers, don't let them sell their rice to another buyer”

Guard              : “yes, Nyai!!”

SCENE 5

Farmer B        : “We’re running out of rice. What are we going to do now?”

Farmer A       : “there’s nothing we can do. We have to buy it from Nyai Endit.”

Farmer B        : “You know the price has gone up five times than our selling price, right?”

Farmer A       : “Yes, but we don’t have other choice”

Farmer B        : “if we buy it, what about our other needs that we still need to buy?”

Farmer A       : “But if we don’t buy the rice, we will starve”

*suddenly, there was an old lady/man coming towards them *

Old lady/man   : “excuse me.. What happen with the people in this village? Everybody seems panicking”

Farmer A       : “It’s nothing, ma’am/sir, we just ran out of rice, and now we're all confused what to do.”

Old lady         : “hoo.. Where can I find the richest man in the village?”

Farmer B        : “you mean Nyai Endit? her house is near here, you just go straight and then you go left at the first turn. You will see a big house. That’s hers.”

Farmer A       : “why do you want to see her?”

Old lady/man    : “i would like to ask her for some alms”

Farmer A       : “What you’re going to do is useless, ma’am/sir. She won’t give you anything for free”

Farmer B        : “if you are hungry, you can eat something in our house”

Old lady/man    : “you don't need to do that.  I just want to know what will happen if there is an old beggar asking for some alms from her. And can you please tell everybody in the village to get ready to evacuate, because there will be a major flood coming.”

Farmer B        : “are you kidding me? There is no flood in the dry season”

Granny            : “I’m not joking. That is why, I’m asking both of you and everybody in this village, to be ready to evacuate soon. And bring all of your valuable things, too.”

*in the mean time, Nyai Endit and her guards were celebrating their wealth and they were having a party. When the beggar reached the front gate of the house, the guards immediately standing in front of the beggar, blocking him/her*

Scene 6

When Nyai Endit and her guard, were partying, suddenly the old woman came and the guard was blocking her.

Nyai Endit: “Hahaha... People in this village are very stupid. Now i’m getting rich.”

Guard: “Yes Nyai! They’re all stupid.”

*the old lady come*

Nyai Endit: “Barja!” Look! There is a beggar in front of my house. Throw her out!”

Guard: “Okay Nyai!”

*The guard went to see the Old lady*

Guard: “Hey old beggar! Get out of here! You will make this porch dirty with your feet!

Old lady: “I come here to ask for some alms. Maybe there is some food i can eat.”

Guard: “What do i care?! There is no food in here! Get out of here, before i drag you out!”

Old lady: “I didn’t ask for your charity, but to the richest woman in this village”

Guard: “Nyai Endit won’t come to see a beggar like you!”

Old lady *shouts*: “Hi Nyai Endit! I want to meet you! Give me some food, please! Nyai Endiiitt!!!!”

Guard: “Crazy woman!”

*Barja dragged the screaming old woman out the premises*

Nyai Endit: “Who’s that crazy woman? She’s so annoying!”

*Nyai Endit went to the porch*

Nyai Endit: “Barja! Who’s that crazy woman?!”

Guard: “I don’t know, Nyai.”

Nyai Endit: “Who are you, Old beggar? Why are you screaming and shouting in front of my house?”

Old lady: “I just want to ask for some food because I haven’t eat anything for the last 3 days.”

Nyai Endit: “What? Why did you come to me? There’s no food in here! Get out of here, you old beggar!”

Then the old lady turns around, and Nyai Endit thought that she will leave. But, the old woman tapped her stick to the ground, and she turned again and looked at nyai endit with anger on her face.

Old lady: “Hear me, Nyai Endit! All this time the Lord has given you His fortunes, but you’re not thankful. You’re very stingyr! While the villlagers are starving, you wasted food! I came here as an answer to the prayers of the people who are miserable because of what you did! Now be ready to receive your punishment!”

Nyai Endit: “Haha you want to punish me? How can?! Didn’t you see my guard? You could die in his hands!”

Old lady: “Don’t bother to throw me out. I will go by myself, if you can pull the stick out of the ground.”

Nyai Endit: “You’re really insane! It’s easy to pull this stick out. I can do it without any effort!”

*Then Nyai Endit tried to pull the stick out with one hand but it didn’t move. Then she tried with both hands and it still didn’t move*

Nyai Endit: “I can pull it out with one hand” *walking to the stick* “Why it didn’t move?” *tried with both hands* “What kind of stick is this?”

Nyai Endit: “Barja!!! Pull out this stick! If you can’t pull it, I will fire you!”

Guard: “Okay,Nyai. I’ll try.”

Old lady: “Hahahaha you can’t pull the stick out, can you? Apparently you're all weak. Look, I'm going to pull this stick out.”

And only with one tug, the stick can be lifted off the ground.
Byurr!!! Suddenly there’s an big outburst of water, came out of the ground, from the hole where the stick was pulled by the old lady.

Old lady: “Nyai Endit! This is your punishment. The water that comes out of this hole, are the tears of the people who are miserable because of you. You and all your possessions will be drown by the flood!”

And after saying those words, the old lady suddenly disappear. Leaving Nyai Endit alone to face her punishment. She was surrounded by the water and the flood is getting higher and higher. She tried to run to save her wealth, but it was too late. In matter of seconds, she was drowned by the flood, along with all her belongings.

After the incident, in the area right where Nyai Endit’s house was stand, has formed a beautiful lake called “Situ Bageundit”

In Sundanese, “Situ” means lake, and Bageundit was taken from Nyai Endit’s name.

Some people said that from time to time, we can see a leech with the size of a mattress at the bottom of the lake. And people believe that it was Nyai Endit’s reincarnation, since she died because she was trapped by the flood and couldn’t escape.
